Well, we are now home again at our mooring in Toul, and this sees us back in port for the remainder of the year; about three weeks in fact.
We have had a good year, notwithstanding that the weather we've had in the summer of 2013 has been the worst weather we've seen in the last eleven years. Much rain was endured, particularly in April, May and June. Now September is here it looks fit to follow the lead of those early months (if the forecast is right, we could end up with two weeks of solid rain in our last three weeks here!) Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable year!
It is now time to do a little work on the boat before we head home to Australia; a little painting is required, weather permitting, and some scheduled maintenance needs to be attended to. We will also catch up with some friends here in the port, and to then ultimately winterize "Histoire d'eau" for the European winter. We are scheduled to leave for Melbourne on September 23.
Before I sign-off for the year, however, I just thought you might like to see how one enterprising German couple enjoyed the canals and rivers of France this year ...
They moored their 'boat' next to us in Toul for a few days, in their brief speedo's and tee-shirts, and seemed to be having a ball!
(  If you were mathematically inclined, you may think to calculate an 'enjoyment level' over 'cost of boating' ratio for this nautical couple, and if you did, I'm just willing to wager that these guys had the best time of anyone on the waterways in 2013.  )
Well folks, that's it for Histoire d'eau for 2013. Hopefully we'll be back again in 2014.
